Text messages are one of a narcissist’s favorite tools.
Why? Because texting gives them control without having to deal with real-time reactions. They can ignore you, reply hours later, twist words, or send short messages that leave you anxious and overthinking. And unlike face to face conversations, texts leave space for confusion which narcissists love.
At first, their messages might seem normal. Even sweet. But over time, patterns start to show, and you notice how certain texts always leave you feeling unsettled, guilty or unsure where you stand. You reread them, trying to decode what they really meant. That’s not accidental.
Narcissists don’t text to connect, they text to manage, test, and maintain control. Each message is designed to pull a reaction, keep you emotionally hooked or remind you that they still have access to you.
