Number 1: They experience a strange surge of demonic energy at night.
When the world slows down and most people begin to feel heavy with sleep, the narcissist does the opposite. As the night grows darker, they grow more alive. They start moving around the house—pacing back and forth, fidgeting with objects, or suddenly becoming talkative. Their energy seems unnatural, almost as if it rises in direct response to your body preparing to rest. The more tired you are, the more restless and energetic they become.
This isn’t simply about being productive. No—it’s about disruption. During the day, they may seem sluggish, distracted, or uninterested in getting things done. But as soon as you are ready to wind down, something shifts. They slam doors. They turn on the lights. They begin rearranging things or finding reasons to walk back and forth. It’s almost ritualistic. They want you to feel that peace is never allowed—not even at midnight.
Now, here is where I need to be very clear: some people genuinely are night owls. Some function better when the sun sets. And some people with ADHD, bipolar disorder, or depressive disorders can experience bursts of euphoric energy late at night. That does not make them narcissists.
What separates this behavior is intent and timing. With narcissists, the late-night energy always shows up when your peace is about to arrive. They do not just feel alive at night—they feel alive when you are trying to rest. And that difference changes everything.

Number 2: They suddenly finish tasks when you are about to sleep.
This one is very precise. You’ve had a long day. You finally get into bed. Your eyes are heavy, and your body is ready to rest. But just as you’re about to fall asleep, they suddenly remember something to do. Maybe it’s cleaning, typing loudly, slamming a drawer, or moving things around that could easily wait until morning.
This timing isn’t random. It happens right when your body starts to drift off. When it happens again and again, you realize it’s not about responsibility. If they really cared about finishing tasks, they would have done them earlier. The real goal is to interrupt your sleep. Falling asleep is a gentle process—your body relaxes, your nervous system slows down, and you let your guard down. The narcissist purposely breaks that process. They pull you back into alertness, making sure the place where you should feel safe never feels secure.
Now, let’s be clear. Not all late-night activity is narcissism. People with anxiety often procrastinate. They delay tasks until the last moment, and then rush to finish when the deadline is approaching. That’s normal anxiety behavior. But with a narcissist, it’s different. They don’t act out of pressure or worry. They act because you are about to fall asleep. They time their actions to hit you at your most vulnerable—and that’s what makes it cruel.
